Before the Session: Prepare the Little Ones

Talk About What to Expect: Let your kids know we’ll be playing at the beach while someone (“a nice lady/our friend named Nikki”) takes pictures. Keep the tone light and fun! This isn’t a stiff or serious event.
Practice Smiles & Giggles: You can “play photo shoot” home to help them feel comfy being in front of the camera.
Bring Comfort Items: If your child has a favorite toy, blanket, or comfort object, bring it along! We can even include it in a few photos for sweet memories.
Nap & Snack Smart: Try to make sure little ones are well-rested and have had something to eat before the session. A hungry or overtired child can quickly unravel.
What to Bring

Towels & Wipes: Sand happens. So do salty splashes, runny noses, and sticky fingers.
Snacks & Water: Choose low-mess snacks like puffs, crackers, or fruit leather. General rule of thumb is to avoid chocolate or anything that melts.
Backup Clothes: A dry outfit for after (or sometimes during) the session is always a good idea.
Hairbrush + Lip Balm: Wind and sun can dry lips and tousle hair quickly. A small grooming kit helps everyone stay fresh.
What to Wear

Go for Soft, Beachy Colors: Neutrals, pastels, and earth tones photograph beautifully against sand and sky. Think soft blues, cream, white, blush, olive, and khaki.
Avoid Logos and Graphics: Keep it timeless with clean, classic looks.
Coordinate, Don’t Match: Pick 2–3 complementary colors and dress the family around them. Varying textures (like linen, cotton, knits) add interest.
Comfort is Key: Flowing dresses, rolled-up pants, and bare feet feel natural at the beach. Avoid anything stiff, scratchy, or too fussy.
Wind Check: If you or your child has long hair, consider a braid, low bun, or hair clip to keep hair from blowing across faces.

Final Tips

Arrive Early: Give yourself 5-10 minutes to settle in, get shoes off, and adjust to the environment.
Go with the Flow: Kids may get sandy or wet or suddenly want to explore. That’s okay! Some of the best photos happen when we follow their lead.
Trust the Process: Don’t worry if your child isn’t smiling every second. Natural expressions, giggles, and snuggles make for some of the most meaningful images.
