Walker’s Overlook Wedding | Allison & Matt

Allison and Matt’s wedding at Walker’s Overlook in Frederick, MD, in September 2019 is one I will NEVER forget. Their wedding was a Sunday Funday that I’d been looking forward to from the moment we had our initial consultation.

Matt reached out after his friend, who captured the proposal, recommended me! This friend happened to be Shane of Cork and Banner Films, who I recommend to everyone and anyone possible. Anyway, during our initial consultation, I learned a bit about them, but the thing I loved most is that they were sitting on their porch, enjoying the sunshine and a glass of wine. I loved the laid-back vibes and just knew they were bound to be a fun couple to work with!

About the Couple

Allison and Matt are fun-loving, outdoorsy, and foodies! Basically everything I hope for when I photograph couples. I wish for laughter, and joy, and down-to-earth couples with big hearts for the people in their lives.

Allison and Matt met at a child’s birthday party! Matt is a realtor and had recently helped a family purchase a home. It happened to be Allison’s best friend (and maid of honor), Liddy. When Liddy and Freddie decided to have a birthday party for their son, Max, both Matt and Allison were invited.

After a few years of dating, Matt decided to propose while taking a cold walk around their Frederick neighborhood park. It was all captured on video and was absolutely so cute. Allison said she noticed some guy creeping in the bushes and, after the proposal, quickly realized WHY!

We were outstandingly lucky to have a beautiful summer engagement session at Baker Park in Frederick, MD. We also strolled around the neighborhood park where they got engaged!

Their Walker’s Overlook Wedding

For me, their wedding day started with detail images and getting ready shots in Walker’s Overlook’s bridal suite while my second shooter went to capture the groomsmen getting ready in the basement game room! One of the most unique details in my eyes is that Allison had Matt’s ring hand-made. I also loved Allison’s shoes, which, unfortunately, she didn’t wear because she had broken her ankle the day before (insert gasps here)!

After getting in her dress, Allison and her dad did a first look, which was so cute and a little funny. Allison was shown how to cry without ruining her makeup and was laughing and crying simultaneously. Then we did bridesmaid photos with the most beautiful glowy light.

We hid the ladies and got the groomsmen out to the nice light, too. Once it was time, we got ready for the ceremony, which was so lovely. One of my favorite images from this day is Allison and her dad hugging at the aisle’s end. Matt couldn’t get the sweetest grin off his face the entire time. The ceremony was under a gigantic tree and was performed by Matt’s church’s pastor.

After the ceremony, we took full wedding party photos and family photos! Then we moved onto bride and groom portraits. We kept our portrait locations close because, by this point, Allison’s ankle was really hurting her. She kept taking breaks to ice her foot in a trashcan! She didn’t know it was broken on their wedding day!

It was time to get the party started. Allison and Matt danced to an elegant cover of “I Believe in a Thing Called Love,” and their father of the bride, maid of honor, and best man speeches were fantastic. I particularly liked when the best man asked Matt to place his hand on Allison’s and then said something along the lines of “Matt, I want you to remember this moment as the last time you had the upper hand.” Laughter ensued.

It was then time to dance, dance, dance – and that the guests did.

Enjoy this peek at their wedding day at Walker’s Overlook!
