Summer Walker’s Overlook Wedding

June 1, 2019 was the most BEAUTIFUL day in every way! Courtney and Brian were married in Frederick, MD and celebrated like no others at Walker’s Overlook. I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding day.

The Couple & Their People

Courtney and Brian are so fun. Courtney is passionate and feisty and energetic and kind. Brian is laid back and friendly and patient and so, so hilarious. On their wedding day, they were surrounded by some incredible folks on their wedding day including family who traveled in from Ireland, friends from Nashville, high school pals from Good Counsel, and very importantly their parents and siblings. Every single person had a beaming smile on their face and it made the day that much more beautiful.

The Embarrassment

One of the most embarrassing things happened to me during my coverage of their day… the wedding party might have an idea where this is going. About 10 minutes after arriving, I am getting set up for detail photographs – trying to figure out where to take them. There’s this awesome stone patio with great light, so I ask Courtney if it’s alright for me to take some of her details outside so I can take photos of them against the stone. She agrees. I start with her very cute, white, polka dotted bridal Keds. I snag a few photos and am setting up rings to take a photo of the sneakers with the rings and OUT OF THE SKY DROPS A BERRY THAT LANDS NEXT TO THE WHITE SNEAKER AND SPLATTERS ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE WHITE SHOE. I am mortified and it’s very likely that I screamed “shit, shit, shit, she’s going to murder me.”

So I grab the shoes, run into the bridal suite and say “Oh my goodness, you’re going to kill me. A berry fell out of the sky and splattered on your shoe.” As I’m on the verge of a mental breakdown, Courtney is the absolute best and remained cool as a cucumber. Her make up artist had some make up remover, a bridesmaid had a Tide to Go pen… and all was… totally fine. The shoe was redeemed. I kicked myself the entire day about it, but also kept thinking ~okay so if that’s the only thing that goes wrong today, we’re all good~ and it’s literally the only thing that went wrong. Phew.

The Ceremony

OKAY – on to something besides the shoes. Courtney’s mom is the cutest. Courtney and her dad had an incredibly sweet first look. The wedding party was so much fun and the ceremony was absolutely beautiful. Courtney and Brian didn’t do a first look, so the first time they saw each other all dressed up was while Courtney was walking down the aisle. Brian, overwhelmed with joy and happiness that his lady of 10 years was about to become his wife, shed a tear or two, and it was so sweet. They had some funny moments throughout the ceremony, which was really great (ceremonies can feel so intense – laughter always helps)! After their ceremony, they had a bit of a receiving line and then everyone head back to Walker’s Overlook!

The Reception

The reception started off with Courtney and Brian showing off their awesome dance moves and the happiness kept building as Courtney’s dad gave a speech. There were tears and laughter and it was so fantastic. Connor, the best man gave a great speech as did Kyleen, the matron of honor. Speeches are one of my favorite parts of wedding days because they give me insight into who the couple is a little bit more.

The rest of the evening got dancy as the guests and couple-of-honor broke it down on the dance floor. All in all, it was an absolutely incredible day.
