Close-up of blue crab with Old Bay and butter during engagement photo session

Crab Feast Photo Session | Bethany, Fenwick, OCMD photographer

When I ask couples what they want their engagement session to feel like, the best answer is always some version of: us. That’s exactly what this one was.

These two didn’t want a manicured garden or a downtown sidewalk. They wanted crabs. Old Bay. Warm butter. Cold beer. And their own porch. So that’s what we did. It might be one of my favorite sessions I’ve ever photographed – and certainly one of the most memorable.

An engagement session that felt completely, perfectly them

They set up the whole spread themselves: a big pile of steamed blue crabs, newspaper on the table, mallets, Old Bay shaken over everything, and butter so warm it was practically glowing. She wore a floral top that was fun and colorful and completely her. He was relaxed and happy and clearly in his element. The two of them together… laughing, cracking shells, stealing bites off each other’s plates… it was just real. No posing required.

That ring shot on the crab claw? 10/10.

This is what I love most about engagement sessions done right. When the setting reflects who you actually are, the photos stop feeling like photos and start feeling like memories. These two are clearly the kind of couple who finds joy in the simple stuff, and it came through in every single frame.

Thinking about a creative beach session?

The best sessions are always the ones built around what you actually love to do together and that doesn’t have to mean standing on the sand and smiling at a camera. Whether it’s a sunrise on the dunes at Fenwick Island, a golden hour walk through Bethany Beach, or something completely unexpected along the Ocean City, MD coast, I love working with people who want their photos to actually feel like them.
