Fenwick Island Anniversary Portraits | Connor & Nathalie
If you’re looking for proof that Fenwick Island makes the perfect backdrop for anniversary portraits, this session is it.
Connor and Nathalie are two of my absolute favorite people, and getting to photograph their anniversary portraits on the Delaware beach with their ridiculously adorable sheepadoodle puppy, Nieuwe, in tow was one of the highlights of my entire season. These might be the cutest photos I’ve taken all year. I’m not taking that back.
A Love Story That Started in Amsterdam
Connor and Nathalie met in Amsterdam in 2015 while traveling abroad, and their connection was immediate. Years later, their little pup Nieuwe carries a piece of that chapter with her – she’s named after one of Amsterdam’s streets. (I mean. Could that be any more perfect?) This past October, these two made it official and got married so this beach portrait session on Fenwick Island doubled as a celebration of their first chapter as newlyweds.
I’ve known Connor basically his entire life. Our families go way back – our moms went to college together, and his whole family feels like an extension of my own. Getting to photograph him and the woman he chose to build a life with, in a place we’ve both spent so many summers? That’s the kind of session I’ll remember for a long time.
Why Fenwick Island Is Perfect for Couples Anniversary Portraits
Fenwick Island sits at the southern tip of Delaware’s coastline, right on the Maryland border and it’s one of the most beautiful, least crowded beaches on the Delaware coast. The wide, open stretches of sand, the soft dunes, and the golden hour light make it an ideal location for couples portraits and anniversary photography. Whether you’re a local, vacationing, or making a special trip to celebrate a milestone, the beach here has a quieter, more intimate feel than the busier resort towns up the coast.
For anniversary sessions specifically, I love how Fenwick Island gives couples room to actually be together – to walk, laugh, lean in, and forget the camera’s there. The light does the heavy lifting, and real moments follow naturally.
About Nieuwe (Because She Deserves Her Own Paragraph)
Nieuwe is a sheepadoodle puppy, and she is an absolute dream to photograph. Named for a street in Amsterdam, she’s fluffy, curious, full of personality, and she honestly might have stolen the show. (I say this with love, Connor and Nathalie.) When Jeff, Maho, and I stopped by to see them a few weeks later, Nieuwe had already doubled in size. These pups grow like weeds – but she was every bit as sweet.
Fenwick Island Couples Portraits: What to Expect
If you’re planning a couples or anniversary session on Fenwick Island, here’s what I always recommend:
- Timing: Sunset sessions begin about 45 minutes before sunset for the softest, most flattering golden hour light. Sunrise sessions are magical too – we start about 15 minutes before sunrise.
- Location: Fenwick Island offers both ocean-facing beach access and bayside spots with calm water and dramatic skies. I’ll help you choose based on your session goals and the time of year.
- What to wear: Soft, coordinating neutrals or muted tones photograph beautifully against the sand and sea. Avoid loud patterns – let the light and the location do the work.
- Bring your dog: Absolutely yes. Always yes. Nieuwe is proof.

Congratulations again, Connor & Nathalie. So glad I got to be there for this one. 🤍
